Medicine Care Review

A Medicine Care Review (MCR) aims to help you better understand the medicines you take, how they work and what they do. This is a free service, funded by the NHS, which involves having a private consultation of around 20 minutes. This consultation will be with our Pharmacist and it will focus on how you use your medicines.

Your GP will decide if you are suitable for this service based on whether your conditions are stable. The purpose of this service is to allow you to pick up your prescription every two months from your pharmacist without needing to get a new prescription from the GP every time. The GP will provide what is termed a ‘serial prescription’ for either six, or twelve months of treatment. The pharmacist then reviews your medicines and will report back to your GP if there are any problems or any suggestions on improvements. You can still contact your GP if required.

The aim of the review is to help you better understand the medicines you take, how they work and what they do. It will also help the pharmacist to identify any problems you may be experiencing such as side effects or interactions with other medicines.
